Zoo and Christmas Tree Lighting

After spending all of Thanksgiving quarantined in our house, we were anxious to get out on Friday. It was beautiful sunny weather, albeit cold. We had previously planned on going to the Christmas tree lighting downtown with friends. Since we were going to be downtown, we went earlier to the zoo. Most of the animals were indoors for the winter, but we still enjoyed the aquarium portion of the zoo, particularly the walruses. They are so interactive with the girls. One sat and played peek-a-boo with Elsa and Ava. Then every time the girls would place their hands on the glass, it would pretend to bite them. The girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It felt so nice to be outside and just get out of the house. Greta is so easy-going and loves being in her stoller. She had been sick too (not sure if it was side effects from all her vaccinations and flu shot from Monday or if she caught the same bug that has passed through me, Elsa, and Ava). She snuggled in her stroller and slept through most of the zoo.

After the zoo, we met up with our friends for the annual Christmas Tree lighting. Brian and I both thought that the tree lighting took place at 7:00pm. We rushed through dinner and then crammed our way through the crowds, stroller and all, to get a good view of the tree. We anxiously awaited for 7 o'clock because Greta was getting hungry and tired. Elsa and Ava were cold and getting bored. At 10 minutes pass the hour, we asked our friends why they hadn't lighted the tree and they told us it wasn't happening until 8pm. We were standing there with Heather and Freddie who had their three kids, age 8 months, 2 years, and 5 years and with Danielle (who is pregnant) and Justin with their two kids, ages 2 and 4, and our three kids. By 7:30 Greta was screaming so I forced my way back through the crowds to find a quiet place to nurse her. I completely missed the tree lighting, which wasn't all bad. Brian told me that all the kids melted. They were lying on the ground crying. Needless to say, it is one of those things that we can say we did ONCE and in subsequent years watch on TV.
