Grant's Funeral

Right after Ava's school musical, we left for the long drive to Utah. We drove the complete 12 hours and arrived in SLC around midnight. It took a little longer with blizzards that were coming through Utah State. We transferred girls to beds and woke up the next morning to get ready for the funeral that would take place at 3pm. The burial took place in Ogden Cemetery, where my mother is buried. There was symbolic significance with the burial taking place on Good Friday. This sad and mournful experience has further solidified our testimonies of Christ's resurrection and our own. We know that Grant will be part of our family in the resurrection and the eternities if we are faithful.
Paula and her friend, Cleo, arranged the casket spray.
The finished spray. I loved the arrangement of hydrangea, Easter lilies, tulips, roses, freesia, and dendrobium orchids. It smelled wonderfully.
Arriving at the funeral. Brian and I with his parents, Tom and Paula. Brian opened the funeral service with a prayer.
My father shared some remarks and read what The Church's handbook says about stillborn children.
Paula recounted the timeline of events, from our move into a house needing renovations, to unexpectedly getting pregnant and being dreadfully sick, and then the news from the first ultrasound to all the other events leading to Grant's death. She also shared thoughts from various prophets about infant deaths and stillborn children.
The Fords and Christensens showed their love and support. Here they are showing their support again.
I then shared my testimony and gratitude for the love and support of so many family and friends. After thoughts and testimony were given, we each placed a white rose on top of Grant's casket.

Here is our little family as we huddled together for physical and emotional comfort.
Both Elsa and Ava were sad and emotional.

My whole extended family was in town for the funeral and Easter weekend. If had been five years since we'd all been together. I was touched by their effort and support.

Elsa waited with Brian and me to place Grant's casket in the ground. She was very curious about the whole process and braved the cold.
Brian placing the casket on top of my mother's vault.
The three of stayed and watching the dirt get piled onto of the casket. It was sobbering to realize that there laid the bodies of my mother and my son. It gave a finality to the process, although we still continue to mourn and miss them both.

I still think about you all often... what strength you ALL have to get through this experience with an even stronger testimony of our Father's plan for us. We miss you!!!!
