On April 11th, Brian participated in Amgen's "Breakaway from Cancer" Ride. The event was sponsored by Specialized and Brian was fitted with an amazing bike, probably worth about 10K. Too bad he couldn't keep it! Ha, ha. He biked an intermediate portion of Amgen's Tour of California. Although I find nothing intermediate about biking 62 miles and through dangerous decents! He rode through some of California’s iconic rides: The Rock Store loop that ascends Mulholland Highway and proceeds along the summit ridge with views to the ocean and Valley and then the very steep (and slippery because of rain) descent on Decker Canyon through the Santa Monica Mountains loop. Brian was tired, but enjoyed the beautiful views of the Malibu lakes and ocean views and Santa Monica Mountains. I will also add that he did this with NO prior training. I don't think he'd been on his bike for months, many months, with all of his spare time focused on events surrounding Grant. We sadly missed him coming through the finish line (we were lost trying to find it), but were there shortly thereafter. We are so proud of him!
