Elsa decided to have a "low-key" birthday party and came up with a backyard camp-out. It was lots of fun and different from other parties. Elsa came up with all the ideas which included a big tent set-up with a TV and DVD player. We blew up a few air mattresses and laid across the tent. Then we borrowed camping chairs to add to our own to set up around the campfire. At the beginning, the girls jumped on the trampoline for a while waiting for everyone to arrive. Then they roasted hot dogs over the campfire and then roasted marshmallows to make smores. It was hectic because some of the girls thought it would be fun to pull sticks and logs out of the fire and swing around. I envisioned the fire department rushing to our house, or worse, someone getting burned and injured.
Afterwards, the girls piled into the tent with their pillows and sleeping bags to watch a "Scooby-Doo Mystery." Brian, Greta, and I sat around the campfire listening to the laughs and giggles and an occasional gasp coming from the tent.
We then gathered around the campfire and sang songs. Thanks to my many years at girl's camp, I had an arsenal of songs to teach them. Their favorite was "The Princess Pat" and "She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain." I was honestly surprised how excited the girls were to sing and act.
We then ended with birthday cake and ice cream and barely remembered to open presents before it was late and time to go home. Elsa wanted to give out mystery books and mini flashlights as her party favor, which is so fitting for Elsa's personality. Elsa said it was the best birthday ever, so that is about all you need...and some sleep!
