Elsa turns 9!

 

Where has the time gone? Nine years seems too old for Elsa and for me! Elsa has been a truly delightful and joyous daughter. She is full of energy, enthusiasm, love, and care. She is a great sister who entertains Greta whether it is helping her build a tower, reading to her, playing dolls, or engaging in pretend play. She is a great friend and confidant to Ava. It has been fun listening to them talk and giggle at night. They come up with funny stories, antics, and even a secret language. Elsa has turned into a main care-taker for Pippin. She feeds him in the mornings, takes him on walks in the afternoons, and plays fetch with him. She is helpful and capable of so many things.

 

Elsa desires more independence and always wants to learn. She wants me to teach her how to cut vegetables, cook on the stove, use a glue gun, hammer, screwdriver. One thing she doesn't like is vacuuming! She says the vacuum is too heavy and not fun. She is always pushing herself in greater capacities. She excels in school. Her teacher said that Elsa is a pure joy to have in her class and that if all students were like her, she would have a very easy job. She said the students all like and want to be around Elsa. She is helpful, but not bossy, pushy, or a know-it-all. Elsa has become a voracious reader. I can't keep enough books around that are new, so she often rereads books over again. She prefers mysteries and adventure, but has enjoyed reading books like "Bridge to Terabithia", "Black Beauty", "The Secret Garden" as well. She loved reading the Harry Potter series this summer and is begging to read the 5th book, but I'm making her wait until she is a little older. She has also devoured all the Percy Jackson books which have peaked an interest in learning more about Greek and Roman mythology. I don't have to worry about her watching too much TV or spending too much screen time. Instead, she is often found in her bed reading a book.

 

Elsa started violin lessons and has enjoyed learning notes and cords. I don't have to remind her to practice. She just does what is needed. She also started tennis this summer and is advancing in her skills. Brian has enjoyed taking her in the evenings to hit balls and it starting to play sets with her. Elsa is a great friend too. She is always game for whatever interests her friends whether it is playing dolls, riding bikes, catching frogs and lizards, or boogie boarding in frigid temperatures. She is fun to be around and brings joy and laughter with her. We are so grateful for the girl you are and the attributes you're enhancing. We love you and wish you a Happy Birthday and a very happy year!
