Chinese New Year - Going Away Party!

Yes, Chinese New Year is in January or February, but it symbolizes new beginnings. And what a new beginning it will be for Grandma and Grandpa as they leave for China to teach English to university students for a year. Grandma's and Grandpa's birthday is on the same day, and was one day before their departure. So as a birthday present we threw a surprise party with Chinese New Year as the theme. The big event was a personal Tai Chi lesson for the whole family. Afterwards, we had fun trying to pick up m&m's with chopsticks, finding our zodiac signs and seeing who we are compatible with, painting Chinese characters, and opening fortune cookies where each family member gave a personal fortune or event that would take place during this next year, while they are away from us. Brian and I said the same thing, that we'd finish our living and dining room renovations. Hoping that comes true! We send Grandma and Grandpa away with many prayers and hopes for a wonderful adventure.
